19 April – 20 May

The second sign of the zodiac is dependable Taurus – the master manifestor and grounding, anchoring force that echoes its fixed earth nature.

As the second sign of the zodiac, Taurus grounds and steadies the high energy (but somewhat unsustainable) output of Aries – and just like its role in the zodiac, Taurus usually ends up creating, continuing and sustaining what others start.

Taurus is all about physical, manifest reality – possessions, resources, money, food and the senses which means routine, security and comfort are of paramount important to the bull. A Taurus friend will always give great advice, has great taste and is in a friendship for the long haul, but just like a Taurean lover, stubbornness, possessiveness and jealousy can overcome this sign in its weaker moments.

Whilst I don’t *love* the idea of dividing attributes into seemingly “positive” and “negative” traits, each sign does have a high-vibrational side and a shadow side.

It’s important not to see these traits as either/or, good/bad, but more of a sliding scale of appropriateness… because let’s be honest, there are situations where ‘practicality’ is seen as positive (like when you’re considering investing your life savings in a decidedly sketchy scheme and you need someone grounded to bring you back down to earth) and there are times when practicality is not as desirable (such as when you really just want to chat about nonsense but someone keeps replying with “yeah, but that would never happen though?”).

These keywords don’t just apply to people born with the Sun in Taurus, they can also apply to the area of your chart (or house) that Taurus rules – bringing these characteristics to this area of your life and colouring any planets found in the sign of Taurus in your chart.

“If it's not broken, don't fix it - that's the Taurean motto!”

Taurus through the Houses:

Taurus is the natural ‘ruler’ of the second house – which is all about our resources and our values, but depending on your rising sign (also known as your ascendant), Taurus may not naturally fall in the second house in your personal natal chart.

For example, a ninth house (house of expansion) ruled by Taurus in a natal chart may signify someone who finds it difficult to change their mind on certain topics or beliefs, or struggle to learn new information. In the seventh house (house of relationships) it may be someone who is incredibly generous and loving (once they’ve warmed up to you) but may have a hard time trusting their partners.

The house in your chart ruled by Taurus will be coloured with Taurean energy and bring the Taurus keywords listed above into that area of your life.

“With the planet Venus as your ruler, you are possessive, particularly in matters of love, as well as having a great affinity for the beautiful things in life. However, your stubbornness is unmatched anywhere.”

Planets in Taurus:

The planetary ruler of Taurus is Venus, the planet of love, beauty, grace, appreciation, connection and value. With attributes like these, you can see why Taurus loves the finer things in life and values genuine connection… Whilst Venus feels comfortable to express its full, authentic self when found in the sign of Taurus in a natal chart, other planets found in Taurus will behave differently under the bull’s influence.
